The Branch of Moscow Engineering Physics Institute (MEPHI) was established at the order of the Ministry of Medium Machine-Building in Snezhinsk, 1958.

The educational institution was established as the branch of MEPHI evening division #4 for training high-quality engineers for the basic enterprise

of Federal State Unitary Enterprise “Academician Zababakhin Russian Federal Nuclear Centre - All-Russian Scientific Research Institute of Technical Physics (RFNC-VNIITF)”.

After nine years the educational institution was reorganized into MEPHI autonomous subdivision #6.

In 2009 the educational institution became the Branch of Moscow Engineering Physics Institute (MEPHI).
